Empty streets in Paris amid virus restrictions
(25 Mar 2020) With the French lockdown in its second week, the streets of the capital Paris appeared almost empty on Wednesday.
Popular landmarks such as the Arc de Triomphe, the Eiffel Tower, Place de la Concorde and the Assemblée Nationale were semi-deserted.
Only a few cars and buses were circulating, with police making sure people were complying wth the lockdown.
France has confirmed over 22,300 COVID-19 cases and 1,100 deaths.
For most people, the new coronavirus causes only mild or moderate symptoms, such as fever and cough.
For some, especially older adults and people with existing health problems, it can cause more severe illness including pneumonia.
